Tupá, Veronika ; Pánek, David (advisor) ; Malá, Jitka (referee)
TITLE Alternative rehabilitation methods in therapy of Parkinson's disease OBJECTIVE The aim of work is to assemble new findings relating the rehabilitation of people with Parkinson disease. Furthermore to elaborate these information in form of literature search to allow their use in common practice. METHODS Up till now there were accomplished many studies which dealt with less common ways of therapy, but didn't find use in common practice. In this work these studies will be presented (in form of literature search). This work will be divided into two parts, where the first will sum up the issue of Parkinson's disease and the second part will deal with the alternative methods. Into this part studies detecting effects of dance therapy, tai-chi, qigong, treadmill training and box on symptoms of Parkinson's disease were chosen. Besides that, in discussion I plan on mentioning conventional therapy (rehabilitation) in Parkinson's disease as well as some guidelines written up in the Czech Republic. KEY WORDS Parkinson's disease, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, dance, therapy, tai chi, taiji, treadmill, gait

Šíslová, Kamila ; Vomáčková, Helena (advisor) ; Pavlů, Dagmar (referee)
Title: The influence of Tai Chi exercise on postural stability and its use as a prevention of falls in seniors Objectives: The main objective of this thesis is to verify by dynamic computer posturograph Smart EquiTest System from NeuroCom®, whether the Tai Chi exercise has a positive effect on postural stability and prevention of falls in seniors. The secondary objective of the thesis is to evaluate the quality of life of seniors, practicing regularly Tai Chi, using the standardized WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire and to assess whether this exercise has a positive impact on the quality of life. Methods: Nine probands mean age 62,53 (± 7,05) years participated in this study. They practiced Tai Chi under the guidance of a professional instructor for 10 months regularly 60 minutes twice a week and they were also instructed to do it alone at home. The dynamic postural stability measurement was performed in the Kinesiology Laboratory of the UK FTVS on the Smart EquiTest System. Limits of Stability, Motor Control Test and Sensory Organization Test were chosen for this study. The measured data were then processed by the Neurocom Balance Manager Software. The WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire was chosen to measure quality of life. The following statistical methods were used to analyze the data obtained by Neurocom:...

Title: The effect of selected exercise trends activating core stability system in dialysed patients - overview of the literature. Objective: Objective of this diploma thesis was to obtain and compare available studies dealing with exercise trends such as yoga, pilates, tai chi and balance training devices and to evaluate their effect on core stability system of dialysed patients. Methods: This diploma thesis has descriptively-analytical character and is structured in a form of literary review. Results: Issue of dialysis in connection with core stability system has not been sufficiently explored yet in literary sources. In conclusion, there were no studies found dealing with effects of particular exercise trends on core stability system of dialysed patients. In order to comprehend this issue an overview was written to define the effect of such trends on dialysed patients. Also, complications arising from renal failure and dialysis were mentioned such as hypertension, diabetes melitus and obesity. The effect of these trends on core stability system of healthy population as well as patients suffering from chronic back pain was described too. Conclusion: Some extent of coherence was found between strengthening core stability system and its effect on dialysed patients however further in- depth research...

Taoism in European terms at the beginning of 21st century. Presentation of this phenomenon in Christian perspective.
Kozmová, Simona ; Bouma, David (advisor) ; Brož, Prokop (referee)
The thesis "Taoism in European terms at the beginning of 21st century. Presentation of this phenomenon in Christian perspective." Taoism as the original Chinese philosophical and religious system, which deeply influenced Chinese Buddhism and Confucianism, is presented in this thesis. The main principles of Taoism and Taoist writings are introduced. Taoism penetrates into different areas of contemporary European culture; its influence is evident in science, literature and the contemporary lifestyle. Special emphasis is placed on traditional Chinese medicine and Taoist exercises that are significantly beneficial to Westerners. In contrast, the risk is found in uncritical accepting and simplifying of selected aspects without a deeper understanding of the principles of Taoism and its tradition. These benefits and risks are documented by publications of Christian theologians. The difference in Eastern and Western thinking is the cause of the difficulty of mutual understanding of both cultures. Keywords Taoism, Chinese philosophy, Chinese traditional medicine, healing, Tai Chi, Christianity

Possible uses of Tai Chi 24 form Yang in physiotherapy
MÁNI, Frederik
This bachelor thesis addresses the traditional Chinese martial art Tai Chi. The aim of this document is to outline the principles of Tai Chi, to conduct a survey of its possible uses in physiotherapy, to describe the effects of practicing this martial art on patients suffering from vertebrogenic pain syndrome and to evaluate the impact of this exercise on the given disease. This paper is divided into parts theoretical, practical and discussion. The theoretical part includes a complex view of Tai Chi, the roots from which it derives, and a brief historical summary. Chapters answering a few practical questions about Tai Chi practice are situated in this part. The most substantial chapter of the theoretical part discusses the impact of Tai Chi practice on health of human beings, which is divided into several aspects according to the World Health Organization. Various foreign studies are mentioned. The practical part includes a chapter about the vertebrogenic pain syndrome, in which the statistical data about the given disease is stated. The chapter also discusses etiology and also the conservative therapy of the disease. The research questions as well as the defining of the study group are the topics of the following chapters. The chapter about methodology includes the methods used for data collection and a description of the used physiotherapeutic examining methods. This section incorporates also a chapter containing the list of movements from the 24-form Yang style Tai Chi and a link to an internet video of the whole sequence. The case history of the patients can be found in the largest chapter of this section. The topic of the discussion section is the interpretation of the research results in the context of other studies conducted by foreign authors, who researched the effects of Tai Chi on various aspects of human health.
